SNAP For Kids
Don't let anyone tell you you're too young to help! SNAP has volunteers of all ages and even
if you're not officially signed up as a volunteer there are lots of things you can do to help the animals. Here are just a few:
Read for a Reason
Attention kids of all ages (and parents): This summer (June-August), read books to "bug" pets, and keep them from getting lost! Set a reading goal and help pets all over the
county get a free special microchip. The little "bug" will help to identify pets that get picked up after getting lost.
Your goal is to spend time reading or listening to someone else read to you: 5 hours for kids aged birth-kindergarten; 10 hours for 1st graders to teens.
Record your reading time online. Don't forget to check out
photos of the pets you helped
"bug" and keep safe this summer. Special thanks to our partners: County of San Diego Dept. of Animal Services, San Diego County Library, and AVID
microchip manufacturers.

Volunteer with SNAP
We do NOT have a minimum age for volunteers (although some of our volunteer tasks do have a minimum
age requirement of 18). Volunteers under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Every SNAP volunteer must fill out an application/waiver; parents must
sign for those under 18. All 12-18 yr olds being dropped off to volunteer must consult with Kelly or Dorell before getting started. There are lots of things you can do
if you're under 18:
- Help at one of our events Check out our Volunteer section! Bring a friend or parent!
- Organize a towel drive We always need towels for our clinics. Can you organize a towel drive and donate the towels to SNAP? Contact
dorellp @ snap-sandiego.org (remove spaces) to get started!
- Organize a fundraiser We need money to help the animals! Can you do a lemonade stand or bake sale to help us raise funds? Every dollar makes a difference! Ask
your parents or teachers to help you with a fundraiser.
- Educate your family and friends about spay/neuter. Help us spread the word. Most people would rather take advice from people they know than from strangers.
So learn as much as you can about spay/neuter, talk to people you know, and encourage them to check out our website.
Bring SNAP to your school
SNAP offers free classroom visits. Ask your teacher if he or she can invite SNAP to visit your
classroom. More information...
